“Whatever
we possess becomes of double value when we have the opportunity of
sharing with others”.
The
second day of our G-week was started with same enthusiasm. Previous
day experience was too good, with more excitement we the GLUG-PESCE
students started our day .It was previously decided to visit
Bharati Educational Trust Polytechnic college and GMIT.
We
started with a team of eleven members leaded by Rakesh. We reached
the college by 11:30 and the session was started by 12:00 and went on
for 2hours.
We had around 100 students who are studying diploma and
engineering in various branches.
Rakesh
started with the ideology part of free software terminology, with a
well known simple example which made students to understand the free
software terminology easily. Then the session was continued with
freedom aspects, user friendly nature of free software. Benefits of
free software, how they help us to work in a convenient environment
was said. The students were impressed by the inspirational talk about
the people who contributed to the free software. The talk went on
with Introduction to GNU/Linux Operating System.
The
students were very interested in knowing about free software. They
were impressed by watching our GLUG-PESCE video which was made using
free software.
Apoorva
explained about GLUG, its function and the activities of the
GLUG.
The
college authority was co-operative. The principal Krishna of
Polytechnic College and Nandish(HOD of computer science department)and Harsha sir of GMIT helped
us a lot.
By the end of the session nearly 40+ students were interested in forming
GLUG. There interest towards the movement was impressive. The ideas
were given to them regarding
GLUG
formation.
Our
Moto of creating awareness about Free Software, sharing knowledge was
achieved to some extent.
We
visited a nearby temple after the session .The further activities of
GLUG-PESCE was discussed.
