ORIENTATION DAY FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2016-17

The GLUG-PESCE chapter had organized the orientation function on 3rd October, 2016 in MBA block Tequip cell. In the function,(Professor & Hod of CS dept) Dr. M.C. Padma and (Hod of IS dept) Dr. Minavathi had graced the occasion by marking the importance of GLUG.
          Praveen Kumar B.N.(5th sem, CSE) welcomed the gathering with an insightful speech and then initiated the proceedings and invited the dignitaries to light the ceremonial lamp. Subhodip Ghosh(7th sem, CSE) played an informative video presenting the ideology of Free Software and Amoghvarsha(5th sem,automobiles) gave a brief introduction about some commands which triggered the interest of the crowd.
Finally, Shreyashree.S(5th sem, CSE) gave the vote of thanks, extending gratitude towards the guest, the volunteers and the audience.
We were elated at the end of it all, delighted at having made a significant contribution. Our efforts did pay off as many students showed their interest at joining the organization. The database uploading is under way and very soon the GLUG-PESCE organization will have many new members.

Report of Git Hub Session(1/3/2014)


Agenda: Session on Java and Git Hub
Glug pesce conducted a session on Java and Git hub, FSMK volunteers Rohit and Santhosh handled the session.
Rohit briefed the students with java programing language,and mainly session was about compiling c,c++ and Java using different compilers like gcc,g++ and open jdk respectively and also about object,structure in Java.
Santhosh introduced Git Hub to the students,The main contents of the session was about Centralized and Distributed Version system,creating repository and pulling and pushing the code through local and remote repository,and finally illustrated how to contribute to the open source communities.

Report of DRUPAL session (22/02/2014)

Agenda : Session on DRUPAL
Speaker: Akshay Gudi & Rachana
As per the agenda , a session was conducted on DRUPAL on 22/02/2014 and there was participation of 45 members. Major part of session was about the installation of DRUPAL and the session also included about advantages of DRUPAL a website designing tool, ,Mysql database,PHP myadmin,lamp server and other general things about linux flavours.

REPORT 17/08/2013

GLUG PESCE ANIVERSERY CELEBERATION”

Wish You Happy Birthday GLUG-PESCE, for the first and most memorable day. Finally the day had came when we had completed one year stepping into most existing GLUG which has now taken its shape, its responsibility to take it forward. Thank you everyone who helped us in making the event successful. The nature of free software has given enormous innovative potential for students to increase their technical capabilities. Today, world wide a large number of students and programmers contribute to GNU/Linux.


  • The sessions was started exactly at 2:30 pm in the afternoon accompanied with parallel sessions on “FREEDOM HARDWARE MOVEMENT” and “HANDS ON WORKSHOP ON LIBRE OFFICE FOR SCHOOL STUENTS”
    FREEDOM HARDWARE MOVEMENT:
The dynamic speaker of this session was Harshitha from FSMK who works in IISC Bangalore and was a student and member of GLUG BMSIT Bangalore.
The session was about how the freedom hardware movement had started by Massimo Banzi and the session was attended by around 100 students and was held in ECL 305 E&C department.
And how it had got spread,when the schematic design of the electronic board is kept under open source,by this way many people are able to learn how the hardware stuff works and what power it is giving like learning hardware easily and sharing it with rest of the world and how the movement is creating a platform for innovations. Some of the videos on the innovation were shown to the students”.
In the next part of the session speaker had demonstrated how to program on aurdino uno board like blinking LEDs and interfacing oscillometer on the board fundamental commands of aurdino and its structure were explained”.



HANDS ON WORKSHOP ON LIBRE OFFICE & TUX TURTLE FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS:
The speakers of the session were Karthik bhat and Jeeva from FSMK,and the session was attended by 35 students from ST JOHNS SCHOOL MANDYA which was held in CSLAB.The session was about how to use the various tools in libreoffice”.
  • The students from melkote polytechnic college ,PES degree collage and G. Mahadev Gowda institute of technology attended the function and a sessions was taken by Rakesh from FSMK to how to start glug in their colleges.”
  • Finally a cake was cut by Rakesh along with all GLUG-PESCE core members and was distributed to everyone”.
  • At the end their was GLUG-PESCE core member meet led by Rakesh from FSMK to how to carry on the glug-pesce activities was held”.

3rd day Report of G-WEEK by team-A (06/08/2013)

     As a famous quote gest's “If you can dream it, then you can do it”.An aspiring team of GLUG PESCE, including the team members Rangarajan,Akshay Gudi,Priyanka agarwal, Mahalakshmi, Chandrika,Kavya and Arjun,  rode thier journey towards another mile stone of  spreading the free software philosophy.  The PES degree college of Mandya was the hub chosen to start with intent of educating them with Free software and its essence.

     The ideology of the free software was briefed by Mahalakshmi, which included the introduction to free software and its  importance in routine, the disadvantages of the proprietary software was also briefed which aptly educated the participants with essence of the free  software.Introduction about the GLUG, PESCE was provided by Arjun M.Y, which included the information related to how GLUG started in PES college of Engg., What is the moto of GLUG, and how it helps every individual to step towards the free softwares.The exploration of the desktop environment of Ubuntu­Linux was briefed by Rangarajan, the talk included various options provided by the desktop environment and its effective use.Lastly Akshay gudi briefed the idea of settingup a GLUG at PES degree college which included the idea to approach college Management, to promote the membership and further activites of the newly set up GLUG.

   The students were assured of the full assistance from the GLUG Pesce to carry out the further activites.After the talk a small meet was held which included the GLUG activists and the students from PES degree who were intreseted in taking up the lead to start the GLUG in thier college. The Contact details were provided and students of the PES degree college were assured to get the apt support from GLUG, PESCE.  Hoping the rise of new GLUG in the new provision, GLUG PESCE acquired an another mile stone in the journey towards free software and free society.

3rd day Report of G-WEEK by team-C(05-08-2013)


                            EFFORTS NEVER FAILS

 The team name called “Mozillians” as a representatives for GLUG-
PESCE continued their works with full enthusiasm. Team members-Manu, Nithin, Sahana, Nishchitha T, Nishchitha S. As a last day of G-WEEK the team visited SET Polytechnic college at Melukote.

   There were more than 100 students from CSE, ECE and ISE departments of first year, second year, and final year students took part in the session.Session was started with the Ideology behind free software, Nishchitha S handled this session and spoke about what is free software and proprietary software. Nishchitha T spoke about advantages of free softwares over proprietary softwares. Students were so interested to learn about free softwares.

    Nithin gave demo on Ubuntu operating system interface and importance of command line. Finally manu briefly introduced about FSMK and importance of GLUG formation and the students were inspired by the free software technology and they voluntarily came forward to form GLUG in their college. The session was started at 2.00pm and ended at 4.30pm.

    After the sessions the team members met the college principal and interacted about the sessions and students interest towards free software technology. All
other staff members of that college gave positive response towards GLUG-
PESCE works. And they are ready to start GLUG in their college.
