“GLUG PESCE ANIVERSERY CELEBERATION”

Wish You Happy Birthday GLUG-PESCE, for the first and most memorable day. Finally the day had came when we had completed one year stepping into most existing GLUG which has now taken its shape, its responsibility to take it forward. Thank you everyone who helped us in making the event successful. The nature of free software has given enormous innovative potential for students to increase their technical capabilities. Today, world wide a large number of students and programmers contribute to GNU/Linux.

• The sessions was started exactly at 2:30 pm in the afternoon accompanied with parallel sessions on “FREEDOM HARDWARE MOVEMENT” and “HANDS ON WORKSHOP ON LIBRE OFFICE FOR SCHOOL STUENTS”

FREEDOM HARDWARE MOVEMENT:

The dynamic speaker of this session was Harshitha from FSMK who works in IISC Bangalore and was a student and member of GLUG BMSIT Bangalore.

“The session was about how the freedom hardware movement had started by Massimo Banzi and the session was attended by around 100 students and was held in ECL 305 E&C department.

And how it had got spread,when the schematic design of the electronic board is kept under open source,by this way many people are able to learn how the hardware stuff works and what power it is giving like learning hardware easily and sharing it with rest of the world and how the movement is creating a platform for innovations. Some of the videos on the innovation were shown to the students”.

“In the next part of the session speaker had demonstrated how to program on aurdino uno board like blinking LEDs and interfacing oscillometer on the board fundamental commands of aurdino and its structure were explained”.

HANDS ON WORKSHOP ON LIBRE OFFICE & TUX TURTLE FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS:

“The speakers of the session were Karthik bhat and Jeeva from FSMK,and the session was attended by 35 students from ST JOHNS SCHOOL MANDYA which was held in CSLAB.The session was about how to use the various tools in libreoffice”.

• “The students from melkote polytechnic college ,PES degree collage and G. Mahadev Gowda institute of technology attended the function and a sessions was taken by Rakesh from FSMK to how to start glug in their colleges.”
• “Finally a cake was cut by Rakesh along with all GLUG-PESCE core members and was distributed to everyone”.
• “At the end their was GLUG-PESCE core member meet led by Rakesh from FSMK to how to carry on the glug-pesce activities was held”.

3rd day Report of G-WEEK by team-A (06/08/2013)

     As a famous quote gest's “If you can dream it, then you can do it”.An aspiring team of GLUG PESCE, including the team members Rangarajan,Akshay Gudi,Priyanka agarwal, Mahalakshmi, Chandrika,Kavya and Arjun,  rode thier journey towards another mile stone of  spreading the free software philosophy.  The PES degree college of Mandya was the hub chosen to start with intent of educating them with Free software and its essence.

     The ideology of the free software was briefed by Mahalakshmi, which included the introduction to free software and its  importance in routine, the disadvantages of the proprietary software was also briefed which aptly educated the participants with essence of the free  software.Introduction about the GLUG, PESCE was provided by Arjun M.Y, which included the information related to how GLUG started in PES college of Engg., What is the moto of GLUG, and how it helps every individual to step towards the free softwares.The exploration of the desktop environment of Ubuntu­Linux was briefed by Rangarajan, the talk included various options provided by the desktop environment and its effective use.Lastly Akshay gudi briefed the idea of settingup a GLUG at PES degree college which included the idea to approach college Management, to promote the membership and further activites of the newly set up GLUG.

   The students were assured of the full assistance from the GLUG Pesce to carry out the further activites.After the talk a small meet was held which included the GLUG activists and the students from PES degree who were intreseted in taking up the lead to start the GLUG in thier college. The Contact details were provided and students of the PES degree college were assured to get the apt support from GLUG, PESCE.  Hoping the rise of new GLUG in the new provision, GLUG PESCE acquired an another mile stone in the journey towards free software and free society.

3rd day Report of G-WEEK by team-C(05-08-2013)

                            EFFORTS NEVER FAILS

 The team name called “Mozillians” as a representatives for GLUG-
PESCE continued their works with full enthusiasm. Team members-Manu, Nithin, Sahana, Nishchitha T, Nishchitha S. As a last day of G-WEEK the team visited SET Polytechnic college at Melukote.

   There were more than 100 students from CSE, ECE and ISE departments of first year, second year, and final year students took part in the session.Session was started with the Ideology behind free software, Nishchitha S handled this session and spoke about what is free software and proprietary software. Nishchitha T spoke about advantages of free softwares over proprietary softwares. Students were so interested to learn about free softwares.

    Nithin gave demo on Ubuntu operating system interface and importance of command line. Finally manu briefly introduced about FSMK and importance of GLUG formation and the students were inspired by the free software technology and they voluntarily came forward to form GLUG in their college. The session was started at 2.00pm and ended at 4.30pm.

    After the sessions the team members met the college principal and interacted about the sessions and students interest towards free software technology. All
other staff members of that college gave positive response towards GLUG-
PESCE works. And they are ready to start GLUG in their college.

3rd day Report of G-WEEK by team-B(05-08-13)

AGENDA: Ideology session on free software and on introduction to GLUG at Mandavya degree college, Mandya on 5th august 2013.

         The journey of freedom fighter will not be ending soon. The process is continues and the freedom for free software will not be easy task but our GLUG,PESCE is one such branch of FSMK which is always vibrant with active members and make their way in every constraints of time and period. The GLUG PESCE next interesting task was spreading the aroma of free software to the society and for this our first main important component of the society was the students and we started this interesting task with students of Mandavya degree college. This was the third day of G-WEEK.

    GLUG-PESCE conducted the ideology session on free software in Mandavya degree college ,Mandya .The third day of G-WEEK started with same enthusiasm. Team of 6 members from Glug group which was leaded by Yashvant visited the college.Team members-Praveen,Meghana,Jyothi,Rachana,Chandana,Anusha.The session started at around 12.30pm with participation of 100+ students from the college and was taken up for about an hour.

       For more interaction, from student point of view, our team had created certain interesting movies, slides and demonstate about the operating system more clearly with the help of projector. The team started exactly at 12:45pm and completed the whole session. Our effort to spread the freeness of free software towards the students was successful for some extent but not satisfactory as we had taken up with commerce students who had very less computer knowledge.

     As per the agenda,volunteers of our GLUG, Chandana gave an interesting presentation on ideology part of free software terminology and this presentation continued by Rachana.R gave a brief discreption and overview on free software and educated students about free software technologies,spoke about FSMK and also discussed 'why free software is important?' ,what are uses of GLUG, how students will be benifited by forming GLUG. We also presented the GLUG movie which was effective and impressive to the students.

         Talk was summerised with the need of free software. Session was concluded with interaction of GLUG team with the attendees. Some students of the college came forward and gave us good feedbacks about the session. We then interacted with the faculties of college and also interacted with college principal. Thus ended the sessions conducted as a part of G-WEEK which was another milestone towards success for GLUG-PESCE. It was a good expirience for us to be the part of session and achieve our moto of promoting free software technologies.

          

              The main intension of this G-Week was successfully completed with all the activist of GLUG-PESCE. As for every end there is a new beginning, this is not the end of the freedom fighters its a new beginning and we will continue and increase our level of approach to spread the free software to society in different technique in comming days...

2nd day Report of G-WEEK(03-08-2013)

“Whatever we possess becomes of double value when we have the opportunity of sharing with others”.

The second day of our G-week was started with same enthusiasm. Previous day experience was too good, with more excitement we the GLUG-PESCE students started our day .It was previously decided to visit Bharati Educational Trust Polytechnic college and GMIT.

We started with a team of eleven members leaded by Rakesh. We reached the college by 11:30 and the session was started by 12:00 and went on for 2hours.

We had around 100 students who are studying diploma and engineering in various branches.

Rakesh started with the ideology part of free software terminology, with a well known simple example which made students to understand the free software terminology easily. Then the session was continued with freedom aspects, user friendly nature of free software. Benefits of free software, how they help us to work in a convenient environment was said. The students were impressed by the inspirational talk about the people who contributed to the free software. The talk went on with Introduction to GNU/Linux Operating System.

The students were very interested in knowing about free software. They were impressed by watching our GLUG-PESCE video which was made using free software.

Apoorva explained about GLUG, its function and the activities of the GLUG.

The college authority was co-operative. The principal Krishna of Polytechnic College and Nandish(HOD of computer science department)and Harsha sir of GMIT helped us a lot.

By the end of the session nearly 40+ students were interested in forming GLUG. There interest towards the movement was impressive. The ideas were given to them regarding

GLUG formation.

Our Moto of creating awareness about Free Software, sharing knowledge was achieved to some extent.

We visited a nearby temple after the session .The further activities of GLUG-PESCE was discussed.

1st day Report of G-WEEK.(02-08-2013)

Following the above words we the GLUG –PESCE members started our GLUG week. A group of 10 members took off to Shanthinikethan Degree and Diploma College on 2^nd of august

We reached there by 1.45pm and started our session by 2.15pm and continued till 4pm.

The following gives the brief report of the visit.

We had about 200 students who were diploma and BCA students.

• Mahalakshmi started with the philosophy of free software and introduced them to the free software terminology.
• Sahana continued with the philosophy part and extended to copyleft concept,hackathon and rest.
• Manu gave a brief introduction and explained the working environment in ubuntu.
• A video was played which pot rayed our GLUG activities to motivate the students.
• Nischitha explained about the GLUG activities and its origin
• To attract the students Manu explained about Remixing of the websites which everybody enjoyed.
• At the end of the session a few questions were asked to the students .Students answered eagerly for all the questions.

• By the end of the session we came across about 10-15 students who were passionate towards Free software and Faculty has also showed their interest towards this movement and are planning to form GLUG in their college as well.

Our reason of visit was to throw a little torches out to lead people through

Which we believe is achieved to some extend.

       Aspiration to promote the free software has met another milestone.The GLUG association,PESCE,Mandya,powered by FSMK proudly organised GLUG fest under the banner SWATAHA-13,SWAtantra TAntraamsha HAbba(free software fest) on April 13^th , 14^th , 15^th .

       It was 3 days of big event full activity,fun and technical fest.It was a symposium that aims to clarify the ideology behind free software and their importance.GLUG,PESCE under the guidance of FSMK,a vibrant group of free software aspirants worked hard and stepped forward to educate the people and introduce them to free software technologies through this GLUG fest.

       The fest lasted for three days with all three days having number of events,workshops and sessions.

       SWATAHA-13 provided a wonderful platform to show out hidden talents of students.students of many different colleges from all over the state joined there hands with us and actively participated in all the events.Enthusiasm among the participants and support from faculty made us to conduct events like quiz,html,c-coding,debate,paper presentation,lightening talk,many more successfully which were distributed for all 3 days.events also included spot games,which was the fun part of the fest.

       Workshops on Android app development,Drupal,Robotics and PCB designing were conducted by resourceful people for both s/w and h/w streams of students.Students were given with the workshop kits.It was a fantastic hit for SWATAHA-13. Attendees were provided with the participation certificate.Addition to this ,there was a hackathon workshop for students.

        Apart from workshops,fest also included with various sessions handled by industrial experts,students and academicians ,on latest technologies of Github,Python,Raspberry pi,LAMP structures,Drupal,how to flash your android device and many more.Adding to this,there was session taken up by Amigo,FSMK on how to run a community center and introduced basic free software technologies to the school teachers and students over Mandya.event also included academician sessions.

        Here comes another hit event of SWATAHA-13. Students took on the streets of Mandya on the first day, to bring awareness among the people about free software and promote the use of Free software for regular activities. Students walked around the city shouting slogans, holding placards, talking to the local folks and also helping DTP operators and internet cafe users switch to Free Software and got good response from public.

      Students of the many college with FSMK as guide came forward with us to cheer another milestone towards success.It was our pleasure working with all students,industrial experts,academicians,FSMK team and of course great experience for GLUG,PESCE with lot of enthusiasm,dedication and efforts to make this event successful.

     

GLUG PESCE office inaugration

GLUG PECSE formed a hotspot for its Free software aspirants. A office concernig to GLUG PESCE was inaugrated on 4th march 2013 at IS & E Dept. Of PESCE , Mandya. The respected faculty members of IS & E dept Mr. Saleem pasha and Mr. Brahmesh honourned the members of GLUG PESCE by inaugrating the GLUG office.

The office was concernd to act as a meeting hub for GLUG core members and hotspot for all the official activites of GLUG including the activites concerning to thev national fest SWATAHA-13. The transcendity of GLUG is being visualized and the oppurtunites are flowing in indicating that destiny is not too far. 

 

HTML session-9/3/13

A weekly meet of GLUG PECSE was held on 9-3-2013, saturday. A session concerning to HTML(Hyper Text MarkUp Language) was given by Vyshak B.S of 8th sem of CS&E dept.

The attendess were taught the basics of HTML and CSS. About a 30 active members attended the session included different branches.

The participants were made familiar with adding basic tags, drop downs, Radio buttons etc... the baisc of CSS was also introduced.

The illustration of the HTML was given by desinging a form like an enrollement form which included various details viz Name, Usn, Gender etc... However the continuation of this session is also planned in the further weekly meets where the members will introduced with more mystries of the HTML.

A feedback session of the same is also planned to be held further.

GLUG MEET 28/2/2013

 GLUG MEET

A meet was held in IS&E on 28th feb Thursday at 1:00pm about the agenda of SWATAHA 13 fest with the involvement of all the GLUG members of different semesters and courses. The main intension of this meet was assigning and involving them all in the events, sessions and workshop. The most important involvement was the core members interaction with all the fresh members and supporting in all the activities that has been assigned to them.

A good strength of 35-40 members was gathered for this meet. The main challenges to be faced for the SWATAHA 13 conference are:

1. Voluenters.
2. Participants.
3. Mobilization.
4. Motivation.

The Voluenters responsibility could be overcomed with little effort which was knowing and introducing themselves to the events information so that all the members can coordinate confidently and individually. Our main intension is every events that has been organised is based upon free software and its applications.

As the fest is been conducted through our college our plan is to spread the awareness of free software all over the college and different near by colleges so that each student could feel the freeness of free software and could participate on different events more correctly. Our expectation is around 100-150 students from different departments who will be participating in all over the events. Our main goal is use of free software should be more easy to handle rather than by the properatory software and its uses.

The very next hardship of GLUG PESCE is mobilization and motivation between the future participants and the members themselves. Our main aspect is all the core members of GLUG PESCE could individually handle and assist any outsider or newcomer to free software, support in all the required manner and could satisfy the need of every participants. The publicity team of the college GLUG is working very hard but we need a smart work that can reach our expectation and for a successful conference. Our team started working for mobilisation in different colleges of Mysore, Ramnagar and Outers of Mandya Technical and non technical colleges. And the response to the efforts is positively conceived by other students of different colleges.

In our campus again we are trying to make a installation fest of GNU/LINUX operating system freely for all the individuals of any departments including the lecturares and professores. Hoping this could motivate the student and can make a vision on the free software. This program is going to start as soon as possible with the presence of all our active and core members.

Next meet will arranged soon that could enhance the ideas and concept of the fest more correctly....

2nd Run-up Event

The Rise Of The SWATAHA 13

A wonderful and an extraordinary events was held on 23-02-2013 in our campus where talented members from FSMK came to our college and made an introduction and spread the light on the topics:

1. “Free Software Movement” session which was engaged by Vignesh Prabhu, executive member of FSMK, created a vibrant environment in each of the students who were came to this session. His interactive session took the student to different world called Free world that was pretty new to them.
2. “Free Hardware Movement” session which was engaged by Ashfaq farooqui and Aravind, showed us the way of the power of hardware using the simple technologies in the present world. They explained each and every topic with their ideologies and presented some videos for the clear knowledge.

The total strength in each of the session was more than 100+ from different branches and semesters who were active and enjoyied the session till the end.

Our next session with the FSMK resource members was the meeting and get-together with all the core members of GLUG PESCE. The discussion was about the conference “SWATAHA 13” which is to be scheduled at April of 2013. Around 30 members were together, shared their ideas and their presence in all the activites towards SWATAHA 13. The detail of each and every works,events,members,task,session and workshop is been attached with this file.

All the GLUG members took equivent job and reposibilites of all the activities that would be organised in SWATAHA 13 with great interest.

1st runup event of SWATAHA-13 --Ramnagar visit

AGENDA : Introductory session on free software and GLUG formation at Government college of engineering,Ramnagar on 16/02/2013.

    GLUG,PESCE conducted the 1^st run up event of SWATAHA-13 on 16 February in govt college of engineering ,Ramnagar. GLUG members- Rakesh,Vyshak,Pooja,Manu,Rachana took part in the session.There was huge participation of students from various dept of the college.Session started with the inauguration function by the management of the college and was taken up for about 2hours.

    
    As per the agenda,resource person from FSMK, Mr.Sharath gave an brief description and overview on free software and educated students about free software technologies,spoke about FSMK and also discussed 'why free software is important?' ,what are uses of GLUG, how students will be benefited by forming GLUG.

     A demo was provided by Rakesh.P concerned to the features of latest technological GNU/Linux operating system UBUNTU and introduced some of Linux commands which would help them to use Linux efficiently.

     Talk was summarized with the need of free softwares.session was concluded with interaction of GLUG core team with the attendees.Many students of the college came forward to cheer another milestone towards success.It was a good experience for us to be the part of session.

     It was our pleasure to have lunch with the managment and then we moved on to janapada lokha with FSMK volunteer,Mr.Sharath.We guys had a great time over there......
