3rd day Report of G-WEEK by team-A (06/08/2013)

     As a famous quote gest's “If you can dream it, then you can do it”.An aspiring team of GLUG PESCE, including the team members Rangarajan,Akshay Gudi,Priyanka agarwal, Mahalakshmi, Chandrika,Kavya and Arjun,  rode thier journey towards another mile stone of  spreading the free software philosophy.  The PES degree college of Mandya was the hub chosen to start with intent of educating them with Free software and its essence.

     The ideology of the free software was briefed by Mahalakshmi, which included the introduction to free software and its  importance in routine, the disadvantages of the proprietary software was also briefed which aptly educated the participants with essence of the free  software.Introduction about the GLUG, PESCE was provided by Arjun M.Y, which included the information related to how GLUG started in PES college of Engg., What is the moto of GLUG, and how it helps every individual to step towards the free softwares.The exploration of the desktop environment of Ubuntu­Linux was briefed by Rangarajan, the talk included various options provided by the desktop environment and its effective use.Lastly Akshay gudi briefed the idea of settingup a GLUG at PES degree college which included the idea to approach college Management, to promote the membership and further activites of the newly set up GLUG.

   The students were assured of the full assistance from the GLUG Pesce to carry out the further activites.After the talk a small meet was held which included the GLUG activists and the students from PES degree who were intreseted in taking up the lead to start the GLUG in thier college. The Contact details were provided and students of the PES degree college were assured to get the apt support from GLUG, PESCE.  Hoping the rise of new GLUG in the new provision, GLUG PESCE acquired an another mile stone in the journey towards free software and free society.

3rd day Report of G-WEEK by team-C(05-08-2013)


                            EFFORTS NEVER FAILS

 The team name called “Mozillians” as a representatives for GLUG-
PESCE continued their works with full enthusiasm. Team members-Manu, Nithin, Sahana, Nishchitha T, Nishchitha S. As a last day of G-WEEK the team visited SET Polytechnic college at Melukote.

   There were more than 100 students from CSE, ECE and ISE departments of first year, second year, and final year students took part in the session.Session was started with the Ideology behind free software, Nishchitha S handled this session and spoke about what is free software and proprietary software. Nishchitha T spoke about advantages of free softwares over proprietary softwares. Students were so interested to learn about free softwares.

    Nithin gave demo on Ubuntu operating system interface and importance of command line. Finally manu briefly introduced about FSMK and importance of GLUG formation and the students were inspired by the free software technology and they voluntarily came forward to form GLUG in their college. The session was started at 2.00pm and ended at 4.30pm.

    After the sessions the team members met the college principal and interacted about the sessions and students interest towards free software technology. All
other staff members of that college gave positive response towards GLUG-
PESCE works. And they are ready to start GLUG in their college.

3rd day Report of G-WEEK by team-B(05-08-13)



AGENDA: Ideology session on free software and on introduction to GLUG at Mandavya degree college, Mandya on 5th august 2013.


         The journey of freedom fighter will not be ending soon. The process is continues and the freedom for free software will not be easy task but our GLUG,PESCE is one such branch of FSMK which is always vibrant with active members and make their way in every constraints of time and period. The GLUG PESCE next interesting task was spreading the aroma of free software to the society and for this our first main important component of the society was the students and we started this interesting task with students of Mandavya degree college. This was the third day of G-WEEK.


    GLUG-PESCE conducted the ideology session on free software in Mandavya degree college ,Mandya .The third day of G-WEEK started with same enthusiasm. Team of 6 members from Glug group which was leaded by Yashvant visited the college.Team members-Praveen,Meghana,Jyothi,Rachana,Chandana,Anusha.The session started at around 12.30pm with participation of 100+ students from the college and was taken up for about an hour.

       For more interaction, from student point of view, our team had created certain interesting movies, slides and demonstate about the operating system more clearly with the help of projector. The team started exactly at 12:45pm and completed the whole session. Our effort to spread the freeness of free software towards the students was successful for some extent but not satisfactory as we had taken up with commerce students who had very less computer knowledge.
     As per the agenda,volunteers of our GLUG, Chandana gave an interesting presentation on ideology part of free software terminology and this presentation continued by Rachana.R gave a brief discreption and overview on free software and educated students about free software technologies,spoke about FSMK and also discussed 'why free software is important?' ,what are uses of GLUG, how students will be benifited by forming GLUG. We also presented the GLUG movie which was effective and impressive to the students.


         Talk was summerised with the need of free software. Session was concluded with interaction of GLUG team with the attendees. Some students of the college came forward and gave us good feedbacks about the session. We then interacted with the faculties of college and also interacted with college principal. Thus ended the sessions conducted as a part of G-WEEK which was another milestone towards success for GLUG-PESCE. It was a good expirience for us to be the part of session and achieve our moto of promoting free software technologies.

          
              The main intension of this G-Week was successfully completed with all the activist of GLUG-PESCE. As for every end there is a new beginning, this is not the end of the freedom fighters its a new beginning and we will continue and increase our level of approach to spread the free software to society in different technique in comming days...

2nd day Report of G-WEEK(03-08-2013)



Whatever we possess becomes of double value when we have the opportunity of sharing with others”.

The second day of our G-week was started with same enthusiasm. Previous day experience was too good, with more excitement we the GLUG-PESCE students started our day .It was previously decided to visit Bharati Educational Trust Polytechnic college and GMIT.

We started with a team of eleven members leaded by Rakesh. We reached the college by 11:30 and the session was started by 12:00 and went on for 2hours.
We had around 100 students who are studying diploma and engineering in various branches.
Rakesh started with the ideology part of free software terminology, with a well known simple example which made students to understand the free software terminology easily. Then the session was continued with freedom aspects, user friendly nature of free software. Benefits of free software, how they help us to work in a convenient environment was said. The students were impressed by the inspirational talk about the people who contributed to the free software. The talk went on with Introduction to GNU/Linux Operating System.

The students were very interested in knowing about free software. They were impressed by watching our GLUG-PESCE video which was made using free software.
Apoorva explained about GLUG, its function and the activities of the GLUG.

The college authority was co-operative. The principal Krishna of Polytechnic College and Nandish(HOD of computer science department)and Harsha sir of GMIT helped us a lot.
By the end of the session nearly 40+ students were interested in forming GLUG. There interest towards the movement was impressive. The ideas were given to them regarding
GLUG formation.

Our Moto of creating awareness about Free Software, sharing knowledge was achieved to some extent.

We visited a nearby temple after the session .The further activities of GLUG-PESCE was discussed.

1st day Report of G-WEEK.(02-08-2013)

Following the above words we the GLUG –PESCE members started our GLUG week. A group of 10 members took off to Shanthinikethan Degree and Diploma College on 2nd of august

We reached there by 1.45pm and started our session by 2.15pm and continued till 4pm.
The following gives the brief report of the visit.
We had about 200 students who were diploma and BCA students.
  • Mahalakshmi started with the philosophy of free software and introduced them to the free software terminology.
  • Sahana continued with the philosophy part and extended to copyleft concept,hackathon and rest.
  • Manu gave a brief introduction and explained the working environment in ubuntu.
  • A video was played which pot rayed our GLUG activities to motivate the students.
  • Nischitha explained about the GLUG activities and its origin
  • To attract the students Manu explained about Remixing of the websites which everybody enjoyed.
  • At the end of the session a few questions were asked to the students .Students answered eagerly for all the questions.


  • By the end of the session we came across about 10-15 students who were passionate towards Free software and Faculty has also showed their interest towards this movement and are planning to form GLUG in their college as well.


Our reason of visit was to throw a little torches out to lead people through
